Contact Lenses

Contact lens wear must begin allow us to enjoy the freedom from spectacle-wear. All our doctors are long-time contact lenses wearers themselves and strongly advocate the importance of proper contact lens wear. There are many types of contact lenses available on the market today and selecting a good lens requires knowledge about the material (e.g. how much oxygen the lens will allow to the eye, how quickly the lens will dry out, etc). It is easy to forget that contact lenses are a medical device placed upon two very important organs, our eyes.

Contact lens wear must begin with a proper contact lens fitting. We are committed to educating our patients about how to properly insert, remove and care for their lenses. Healthy contact lens use needs to start with quality lenses and a proper fitting. Healthy contact lens use is continued with proper lens and eye care. Our doctors will discuss your needs and help to select a lens that is appropriate for your lifestyle and cost-effective for you. Furthermore, the lenses will be evaluated upon your eyes to ensure that the lens is suitable for your eyes. Even a great lens, improperly fitted, can cause complications. We believe that patients should have sufficient time to try contacts to assess both their vision and comfort to ensure healthy, long-term lens wear.

Multifocal Contact Lenses

We are excited to introduce our patients to multifocal contact lenses. These new lenses allow wearers to eliminate their need for reading glasses for most daily tasks. Patients who have spent years struggling with multiple pairs of spectacles have been pleasantly surprised when they are able to comfortably read up-close and distance without the need for spectacles. It is a freedom that is being savored by more and more of our patients.

Children & Contact Lenses

Our doctors are often asked when children can start contact lens wear. There isn’t a set age for contact lens wear. Moreover, it is a decision that involves the child, the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the doctor. If a child (or the appropriate adult) is able to oversee the proper handling of contact lenses, our doctors can fit the lenses appropriately. We will discuss lens wear and cleaning procedures to determine the right time at which each individual child can begin contact lens wear.

Myopia Control

More and more children are wearing specialty contact lenses today, as one way to help to control the progression of their myopia (near-sightedness). Speak to one of our optometrists to see if this treatment is recommended for your child.
